Would you boycott?

If Canada dropped white phosphorous on your children, prevented them from going to school, jailed 10 year olds, bombed your churches, blew up your police stations, set up 600,000 checkpoints throughout the US, built Canadian-only roads that split you up into Bantustans and ghettos, constructed walls that cordoned off your neighborhoods, slapped sanctions on the West Coast, jailed hundreds of thousands of Americans without charge, stole your water supply, and sent millions of Canadians to forcefully take your land & carry out violent attacks in your cities,  would you be open to boycotting a Canadian dance company that was funded by the Canadian government and was being used as cultural propaganda to rebrand Canada's image throughout the world?

Poetic Injustice book tour!

Hi everyone,

I'll be doing a big North American tour to promote my upcoming book and CD, Poetic Injustice: Writings on Resistance and Palestine. Check out some of the tour info below if you're interested in getting a show together in your town or city!

Remi Kanazi will be touring North America this winter and spring on the Poetic Injustice tour. The tour will be promoting the release of Remi’s long awaited collection of poetry and CD, Poetic Injustice: Writings on Resistance and Palestine.

Pulitzer Prize winner and Nation Institute senior fellow Chris Hedges said, "There is more truth, and perhaps finally more news, in Remi Kanazi's poems than the pages of your daily newspaper or the sterile reports flashed across your screens." Former US Congresswoman and Green Party nominee for president Cynthia McKinney said Poetic Injustice is, "breathtakingly honest prose that shakes the reader's preconceived notions of the Middle East …run out and get this collection today”

Remi is fresh off his North American Poets For Palestine tour, appearing at more than 150 venues across the US and Canada to highlight the widely acclaimed collection of poetry, hip hop,and art, Poets For Palestine. Poetry pioneer Bob Holman remarked, “If you want to know about Palestine, read this book.” Moustafa Bayoumi, editor of the highly regarded Edward Said Reader and Midnight on the Mavi Marmara, said that Poets For Palestine is “a bold, necessary, and moving collection.”

If you would like to host a performance, book signing, or add Remi to an existing program (i.e. a cultural night, Arab festival, spoken word show, hip hop show, Palestine Awareness Week, or fundraiser) please let me know. Remi’s work is also a great addition to events featuring academics, politicians and activists.

A picture is worth a thousand words--Downtown Muslim Cultural Center

I wasn't able to make it to the anti-Muslim rally in downtown Manhattan this weekend. But from what I hear, it was pretty scary. There were swastika sightings, an overflow of fascist rhetoric, people foaming from the mouth talking about "the end of America," and your good old anti-Muslim hatred wrapped in the talk of freedom. This picture of people protesting Muslims "coming to" Lower Manhattan with a halal food cart in the background sums up how ridiculous they are:

Fall Tour

Hi everyone,

I’m doing a short tour before the release of my upcoming book and cd, Poetic Injustice: Writings on Resistance and Palestine. Below is a abridged version my tour manager sent out.

Remi

Palestinian-American poet Remi Kanazi will be touring the US this fall and I thought you may be interested in hosting him in your town or city.

Remi is fresh off his North American Poets For Palestine tour, appearing at more than 100 venues across the US and Canada to highlight the widely acclaimed collection of poetry, hip hop, and art, Poets For Palestine . Poetry pioneer Bob Holman remarked, “If you want to know about Palestine, read this book." Moustafa Bayoumi, editor of the highly regarded Edward Said Reader and the forthcoming anthology Midnight on the Mavi Marmara, said that Poets For Palestine is “a bold, necessary, and moving collection.”

Remi is a recurring writer-in-residence and advisory board member for the Palestine Writing Workshop. He just returned from Palestine after the conclusion of a two-part class he taught on spoken word poetry. While there, he also participated in Palestine's traveling cultural festival, PalFest.

Remi’s fall U.S. tour will precede the release of his upcoming book and cd, Poetic Injustice: Writings on Resistance and Palestine due out in January 2011.

Flotilla

4 bullets to the head
            this is self defense
they attacked us with white flags
            this is self defense

we are a tiny state
            this is self defense
we went through the Holocaust
            this is self defense

we will sink the next boat
and the one after that
            this is self defense

we must build new outposts
and a wall on their land
            this is self defense

Haneen Zoabi is a traitor and a terrorist
Arabs must take loyalty tests
            this is self defense

we can’t recognize their villages
transfer to Jordan is needed
wheelchairs are a luxury
            this is self defense

we killed 1400 in Gaza
            this is self defense

we dropped white phosphorous on their children
            this is self defense

Even when there is no defense
            this is self defense
